Oracolo, parola del SIGNORE, riguardo a Israele. Parola del SIGNORE che ha disteso i cieli e fondata la terra, e che ha formato lo spirito dell'uomo dentro di lui. «Ecco, io farò di Gerusalemme una coppa di stordimento per tutti i popoli circostanti; questo concernerà anche Giuda, quando Gerusalemme sarà assediata. In quel giorno avverrà che io farò di Gerusalemme una pietra pesante per tutti i popoli; tutti quelli che se la caricheranno addosso ne saranno malamente feriti e tutte le nazioni della terra si aduneranno contro di lei.

LE COMPLICITA' PALESTINESI NELLA STRAGE ALLA DISCOTECA

    Il piu' chiaro esempio del cinismo con cui l'Autorita' Palestinese e lo stesso presidente Yasser Arafat si comportano nei confronti del terrorismo, in totale spregio degli impegni presi, e' ben illustrato dal modo in cui hanno gestito le indagini seguite al massacro di ventuno adolescenti israeliani nell'attentato alla discoteca di Tel Aviv del primo giugno scorso. Poco dopo l'attentato, i servizi di sicurezza israeliani avevano gia' individuato alcune delle persone coinvolte nella preparazione della strage. In uno dei periodici incontri coi palestinesi per coordinare la sicurezza, Israele aveva dunque fornito ai rappresentanti palestinesi i nomi di due mandanti del terrorista suicida: si trattava di due membri del gruppo fondamentalista Hamas, uno di Nablus e l'altro di Qalqiliyah (entrambe citta' sotto giurisdizione palestinese). Ai palestinesi fu chiesto di arrestare immediatamente i due, richiesta sostenuta anche dai mediatori americani.
    Cosa e' accaduto dopo quell'incontro? I due mandanti del massacro che aveva scioccato il mondo sono stati invitati a partecipare a una riunione negli uffici di uno dei servizi di sicurezza palestinesi. Nel corso di un colloquio - non di un interrogatorio - con gli agenti della sicurezza palestinesi, i due hanno ammesso il loro coinvolgimento nella preparazione e realizzazione dell'attentato suicida a Tel Aviv. E qui viene la parte piu' interessante della storia. In seguito alle loro ammissioni, i due sono stati ammoniti dagli agenti palestinesi di non fare piu' cose del genere in futuro. Pare che i due abbiano persino firmato un impegno scritto in questo senso e, finita la chiacchierata, se ne sono tornati a casa.
    In un successivo incontro con gli israeliani sulla sicurezza, interpellati su cosa avessero fatto circa i due mandanti dell'attentato, i rappresentanti palestinesi hanno risposto: "Li abbiamo ammoniti".
    E' chiaro che chiunque abbia dato ordine di comportarsi in questo modo con quei due terroristi diventa complice del massacro da loro perpetrato e si rende responsabile del fatto che altri si sentano incoraggiati a compiere sanguinosi attentati. E' una vicenda che illustra bene come funziona oggi l'Autorita' Palestinese. E' evidente che Arafat sta prendendo in giro Israele e gli americani. Nulla di tutto questo potrebbe accadere senza la sua approvazione. Inoltre vale la pena ricordare che Israele ha fornito ai palestinesi una lista di altri 35 terroristi che stanno pianificando attentati terroristici, tra i quali otto o dieci sarebbero gia' pronti a compiere attentati suicidi. Dunque questa vicenda illustra molto bene anche come mai Israele ha il diritto e il dovere di difendersi direttamente e di cercare di bloccare come puo' ulteriori attentati.

LA TREGUA CHE NON TIENE

    Dopo alcuni giorni (subito dopo l'inizio ufficiale della tregua Tenet) durante i quali il numero di incidenti e' diminuito, ora le violenze palestinesi sono evidentemente tornate al loro livello abituale, con la ridicola scusa che il cessate il fuco si applicherebbe soltanto alle Aree A (sotto giurisdizione palestinese). In pratica, non c'e' differenza fra Fatah, il movimento di Arafat, e i gruppi fondamentalisti Hamas e Jihad Islamica. Sono tutti coinvolti in attivita' terroristiche approvate e autorizzate. Gli Stati Uniti sanno fin troppo bene come stanno andando le cose, ma finche' non smascherano pubblicamente il doppio gioco di Arafat, questi puo' continuare a prendersi gioco di tutti noi.

    Le uccisioni a freddo di questi giorni stanno portando il governo d'Israele sempre piu' prossimo al momento in cui anche i ministri laburisti saranno costretti ad alzare le braccia e ammettere: abbiamo tentato tutto, ma non c'e' proprio nulla da fare. A quel punto nessuna compagnia di assicurazione sara' piu' disposta a scritturare una polizza sulla sopravvivenza dell'Autorita' Palestinese. Ogni giorno che passa con attentati e senza una risposta delle Forze di Difesa israeliane rende sempre piu' dura la risposta che arrivera', quando sara' dato l'ordine di reagire. Ma Arafat vuole proprio una dura reazione militare israeliana perche' pensa che cio' condurra' a quella internazionalizzazione del conflitto che desidera sopra ogni cosa.


LA TV PALESTINESE INVOCA GLI ATTENTATI SUICIDI

     Every Friday, the PA television broadcasts a live sermon from one of the Gaza mosques. On June 8, 2001, a week after the Tel-Aviv suicide bombing and a few days following Arafat's declaration regarding the cease-fire, a sermon by Sheik Ibrahim Madhi was broadcast from the Sheik 'Ijlin Mosque. In his sermon, Sheik Madhi preached for 'martyrdom operations' and for the destruction of Israel, the United States, and Britain. Following are excerpts from the sermon:
     "...I tell you, Oh beloved, that ever since Kamal Ataturk [founder of modern Turkey], this Jew who disguised himself as a Muslim - and there may still be in the Arab nation Jews who disguise themselves as Muslims... ever since he announced the end of the Islamic Caliphate in Istanbul - as some contemporary religious sages assert - the era preceding the end [of days] has began - the era of the military rule, the era of revolutionary rule. Allah willing, we are at the end of this era and Allah willing, the Caliphate will return, in accordance with the prophecy, and I pray that we will be among its soldiers..."
     "Allah is almighty. Had He wanted - He would have beaten them. But He tests you in suffering. We must prepare the ground for the army of Allah that is coming according to the [divine] predetermination. We must prepare a foothold for them. Allah willing, this unjust state will be erased - Israel will be erased; this unjust state, the United States, will be erased; this unjust state, Britain, will be erased - they who caused this people's Nakbah [the 1948 'catastrophe']..."
     "Oh beloved, we must be certain that victory will come. Shame and remorse on whoever refrained from raids [against the enemy] or refrained from preaching to himself [to raid]; shame and remorse on whoever refrained from raising his children on Jihad; shame and remorse on whoever hated his Muslim brother while loving one of the infidels; shame and remorse on whoever hid behind excuses that have no basis with Allah..."
     "Blessings to whoever waged Jihad for the sake of Allah; blessings to whoever raided for the sake of Allah; blessings to whoever put a belt of explosives on his body or on his sons' and plunged into the midst of the Jews, crying "Allahu Akbar, praise to Allah, There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His messenger."'
     "Just as the building collapsed over the Jews in their sinful dancing floor [referring to the collapse of a wedding hall in Jerusalem] - I pray to Allah that this oppressive Knesset will collapse over the heads of the Jews."
    "Allah, forgive us our sins, Allah, show us a black day for the Jews, like the day of 'Aad and Thamud (1)  Allah, turn them into pillage for us Allah, we strive for martyrdom for your sake... Allah, we strive for your mercy and your paradise..."(2)

    PRAYER FOCUS:  We need to recognize that the trouble Israel is facing in the natural has its roots in the spiritual realm.  This is a spiritual struggle.  Now is the time to put on the armor of God and stand firm against the evil one and his plans and schemes.  Pray for the plans of Almighty God to be accomplished.
    SCRIPTURE:  "'Before Me no god was formed, nor will there be one after Me.  I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from Me there is no savior.  I have revealed and saved and proclaimed-I, and not some foreign god among you.  You are My witnesses,' declares the Lord, 'that I am God.  Yes, and from ancient days I am He.  No one can deliver out of My hand.  When I act, who can reverse it?'" (Isaiah 43:10-13).
