Lettera circolare a persone che possono essere interessate

Le notizie provenienti da Israele si fanno sempre più preoccupanti e purtroppo sembra che in Italia l'attenzione sia abbastanza scarsa. Inoltre, le informazioni che compaiono sulla stampa nazionale sono sempre più faziose e certamente non contribuiscono a dare un quadro realistico della situazione. Senza avere particolari pretese, ho pensato che si dovesse fare qualcosa per diffondere anche tra i credenti italiani delle notizie su Israele che siano di stimolo alla riflessione e alla preghiera. L'intenzione è di raccogliere e inviare regolarmente informazioni raccolte in vari modi, prevalentemente dalle pubblicazioni e dai siti internet di lingua inglese e tedesca. Chiedo scusa se mi aggiungo al numero (purtroppo alto) di persone che fanno circolare notizie e avvisi di tutti i tipi, ma spero l'argomento di cui si tratta mi faccia trovare comprensione. Comunque, chi non gradisse ricevere queste lettere circolari può farmelo sapere e lo depennerò immediatamente dalla lista. Grazie per l'attenzione.

OBIETTIVO FINALE: LA DISTRUZIONE DI ISRAELE PER GRADI


Faysal al-Husseini, l'attuale ministro palestinese per le questioni su Gerusalemme, fece parte nel 1993 della delegazione palestinese che discusse e approvò gli accordi di pace di Oslo. Adesso, dopo che Arafat ha fatto capire (per chi lo capisce) quali sono le sue reali intenzioni, il linguaggio di questo ministro è cambiato. In ambiente arabo e in lingua araba ha spiegato bene che cosa intendono per pace i dirigenti dell'Autonomia Palestinese.
Il mese scorso, davanti a un pubblico di avvocati libanesi, Faysal al-Husseini ha tenuto a Beirut un discorso il cui nocciolo può essere reso così: bisogna impedire a Sharon di riportare sicurezza in Israele, perché questo significherebbe il naufragio dell'obiettivo palestinese: l'annientamento dello Stato di Israele per gradi.
Il resoconto del discorso di Husseini è comparso sul giornale libanese "Al-Safir" del 21 marzo. Stralci di questo articolo sono stati tradotti in inglese e in tedesco e riportati in diversi notiziari su internet.

Dal discorso del ministro palestinese a Beirut:

"Sia benedetta Beirut, che ha sconfitto il nemico e in questo modo ha dimostrato che noi possiamo vincere le superpotenze. Benedetta sia la resistenza [degli Hezbollah] che ci ha dato la speranza che il futuro è nelle nostre mani. La vittoria libanese [cioè il ritiro delle truppe israeliane dalla zona di sicurezza sudlibanese] è il più grande esempio della realtà in cui vive il nemico israeliano, la cui sconfitta è cominciata poche settimane dopo la sconfitta araba del 1967.

Nel 1969 ero un membro dell'esercito di liberazione in Siria e da li visitai le città occupate in Palestina. Quando visitai Jaffa e Haifa un giornalista mi chiese quali erano i miei sentimenti. Dissi che Gerusalemme avrebbe subito lo stesso destino di Haifa - che in massima parte è diventata ebrea - se noi non fossimo stati abbastanza saggi da combattere e prepararci con ordine.

L'attuale Intifada ha irrinunciabili motivi interni ed esterni. Non è un atto di protesta, ma un movimento di liberazione che non può essere fermato fino a che non sia stata raggiunta la piena indipendenza palestinese.
Nella prima Intifada [dicembre 1987] riuscimmo a infrangere con successo molti tabù israeliani. Golda Meir disse una volta che non esisteva un popolo palestinese, ma noi ci guadagnammo il nostro riconoscimento. Nel passato avevano detto "no" a uno stato palestinese, ma noi rompemmo anche questo tabù.

Nel passato si rifiutavano di riconoscere l'OLP [Organizzazione per la Liberazione della Palestina], e adesso ci riconoscono come l'unico legittimo rappresentante del popolo palestinese. Nell'attuale Intifada abbiamo anche infranto il tabù su Gerusalemme e sui profughi [il diritto al ritorno sui territori di Israele dei profughi del 1949].

Durante il periodo di Barak, nonostante tutte le tragedie e i comportamenti barbarici [di Israele], abbiamo infranto molti tabù, e adesso Sharon cerca di far tornare indietro tutto questo. Barak aveva consentito che fosse restituito il 95% del territorio palestinese occupato. Per questo non dobbiamo permettere che Sharon abbia successo. L'Autonomia Palestinese non offrirà nessuna rete di protezione a Sharon, anche se lui usa toni più moderati quando mantiene la sua politica.

Il vertice arabo [che si tenne la settimana successiva] si deve tenere lontano dalla logica secondo cui si devono offrire possibilità a Sharon. Noi ci aspettiamo molti scontri con gli Israeliani nei prossimi mesi, soprattutto a Gerusalemme. Ci sono tutti gli elementi per un'esplosione.

Noi siamo convinti che gli scontri in Gerusalemme scuoteranno il mondo dall'Indonesia al Marocco. E questo sarà un segno per gli USA, che saranno costretti a capire che il loro appoggio a Israele distruggerà la stabilità in tutta la regione. Ci troviamo davanti a una battaglia, e a questa adesso ci stiamo preparando. Non dobbiamo permettere che Sharon abbia successo sulla questione della sicurezza, perché questo significherebbe la nostra sconfitta politica.

In questa battaglia il popolo palestinese procede mano nella mano con la dirigenza dell'Autonomia Palestinese. Non ci sono dissidi interni tra le due parti. L'Intifada deve avere la priorità. Ci possono essere stati errori e mancanze, ma la battaglia ha importanza primaria.

C'è anche una fine differenze che tutti devono ben capire. Io posso essere obbligato a mantenere i contatti con il governo di Sharon per ottenere alcune cose di importanza vitale per il nostro popolo. Ma questo non giustifica il mantenimento di relazioni con Israele da parte di altri [stati arabi]. Io mantengo i contatti [con Israele] PER PORRE FINE ALLA RELAZIONE. E' cosa ben diversa dalle relazioni che altri stati voglio mantenere fra di loro.

C'è differenza tra l'obiettivo strategico del popolo palestinese, che non è pronto a concedere neppure un briciolo del territorio palestinese, e l'obiettivo politico che si vuol ottenere con l'equilibrio delle forze, secondo l'attuale sistema internazionale.

La prima cosa è diversa dalla seconda. Possiamo vincere o perdere [le singole battaglie], ma i nostri occhi continueranno a puntare l'obiettivo strategico, cioè UNA PALESTINA CHE SI ESTENDA DAL FIUME AL MARE. Quali che siano le cose che adesso possiamo ottenere, esse non ci faranno dimenticare questa altissima verità".

LE VALUTAZIONI DI UN RABBINO

L'articolo che segue esprime il pensiero di un rabbino che non crede in Gesù come il Messia, ma non crede neppure alle illusioni di chi pensa di riportare la pace sulla terra di Israele soltanto attraverso gli sforzi umani. E' stato scritto due anni dopo gli accordi di Oslo del 1993.

The Final Battle for Jerusalem

THE FINAL BATTLE FOR JERUSALEM: Has It Begun?


At this writing, one of the major news items which has been reported around the world, capturing everyone's attention, is once again the holy city of Jerusalem and its "uncertain future." Uncertain in whose mind, and for whom?

Certainly not as far as the G-d of Israel is concerned, and His grand plans for Jerusalem's future - that is already decided, and we all know that G-d is not one to change His mind:

"Thus says the L-rd G-d of Hosts: I was zealous for Zion with great zeal, and I was zealous for her with a great fury. Thus says the L-rd: I have returned to Zion, and I will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; and Jerusalem shall be called the city of truth, and the mountain of the L-rdof Hosts, the Holy Mountain." (Zechariah 8).

The atmosphere of uncertainty with regard to the city's "final status," which is scheduled to be negotiated next year at the latest, is yet another indication of the gravely mistaken and misguided process which the Oslo Accords have set in motion. The G-d of Israel, whose name has not been mentioned at any of the negotiations, decided long ago what the future holds for Jerusalem.

Now as everyone knows, despite the "peace" which has been achieved - the peace which prompted Mr. Shimon Peres to promise in Cairo in May, 1994, that there would be "no more terrorism, no more bloodshed, no more violence... no finger will press a trigger any more" - despite this, the PLO justice minister was recently quoted as saying that "Israel is the chief enemy, now and forever" (maybe that's the reason why the number of Jewish victims of Arab terror - killed and wounded - has doubled in the 18 months since Oslo, compared to the same period before the agreement).

Of course, Jerusalem has been in the news these days because of a "controversial" decision by Israel's government to "confiscate Arab land in East Jerusalem." In other words, when the legitimate representatives of the Jewish people finally decided to assert their G-d-given authority over Jerusalem, the world sees it as controversial. And even though the entire world is on its side, the United Nations had nothing better to do than forge a resolution against Israel for this action - since the 22 nation Arab League had warned that this could endanger the entire peace process (meaning, if Israel is going to start acting like a people of G-d again, maybe we won't be able to get away with this...)

Those who wage war against the people of Israel, make war against the G-d of Israel. The Palestinians, in the battle which they wage against the G-d of Israel, are hopeful and boastful of making Jerusalem their capital - either through negotiations or through terror. But this does not change the fact that G-d has already chosen Jerusalem for Himself, as the one spot on earth He cares to make Himself known in. Is the Al-mighty afraid of the PLO? Or Hamas? Or even Islamic Jihad? I think not.

"But I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name might be there; and I have chosen David to be over my people Israel."(II Chron. 6:6)

Jerusalem, David, and My people Israel. G-d says they go together. Who dares to contradict this? Who dares? G-d, the Creator of heaven and earth, owns the entire world, and can do with it what He pleases. "...the earth is the L-rd's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell in it" (Psalms 24). He has already confiscated Jerusalem for Himself! But then again, when it comes to anything holy, and anything important to G-d, someone always tries to interfere: "And the L-rd said to the adversary: 'the L-rd rebukes you, O adversary, even theL-rd who has chosen Jerusalem rebukes you...'" (Zechariah 3:2)

Meanwhile, the United States used its veto power in the UN for the first time in five years and thereby defeated the resolution against Israel. In vetoing the resolution, US ambassador to the UN Madeline Albright said: "I have cast this veto today... reluctantly, but without hesitation... on an issue of principle for the US. The principle is this: the only path to achieve peace in the Middle East is direct talks between the parties." The ambassador also appealed to the parties and all the members of the council "not to allow the issue of Jerusalem to distract them from their common commitment to peace."

But there is another factor to peace - or put more rightly, perhaps the only true factor to peace - which the US ambassador, as well as Israeli leaders, do not seem to be aware of. It is of interest to note which section of the Torah was read in synagogues throughout the world during the week in which the UN debate took place and the ambassador made her statement. For the Five Books of Moses are divided into sections, and each section corresponds to one week of the year.

Jews (and many others) throughout the world who study these "weekly portions" have long noticed an incredible phenomenon - which is no phenomenon at all, but the power of prophecy found in G-d's holy word, alive and well. And that is that there seems to be an uncanny resemblance and connection between events around us, and even in our personal lives, and the section of the Bible which is being read. So too, during the week of this UN debate, the final portion of the book of Leviticus was read, in which we find a clear and unambiguous message:

"If you follow My laws and keep My commandments... you will live securely in the Land... I will grant peace in the Land so that you will sleep without fear. I will rid the Land of dangerous animals, and the sword will not pass through your land. You will chase away your enemies, and they will fall before your sword. Five of you will be able to chase away a hundred, and a hundred of you will defeat ten thousand, as your enemies fall before your sword..." (Lev. 26)


"If you follow My laws and keep My commandments... you will live securely in the Land." This is the path to true peace for the Jewish people in the Land of Israel; the only path to peace. What more needs to be said? What explanation needs to be given?

As we mentioned above, G-d promised through the prophet Zechariah that His mountain - the Holy Temple - shall again be called the Holy Mountain. But when shall this day come about, and how? For He has also declared, through the prophet Hagai, that real peace shall only emanate from there: "The glory of this latter house shall be greater than that of the former, says the L-rd of Hosts:and in this place I will give peace, says the L-rd ofHosts." (Hagai 2:8)

"In this place I will give peace..." does this not instruct us that G-d's holy mountain is the key to peace? And is it then any wonder that the PLO insists Jerusalem will be its capital, with its flag flying from the Temple Mount? Today, the Arabs rule the Temple Mount, and do not allow either Jews or Christians to pray there... indeed, if a Jew is suspected of praying on the spot holiest to him in all the world, he is immediately arrested... Those who read the Bible and understand the message of prophecy for today, can clearly see that the battle for Jerusalem - which is the battle for G-d's own honor - has begun. Now everyone must make a decision ... whose side am I on? G-d's, or the side of the adversary?

For in the final battle against Jerusalem, the prophet Zechariah tells us that all nations will come to wage war against her (the UN?). But some, like Daniel in the Babylonian captivity, who faced Jerusalem daily in prayer, will remain faithful to her. However, this will only be a remnant. Perhaps this process is beginning today. And the remnant of all those who remain - after G-d judges those who waged war against her - will joyfully make the pilgrimage to Jerusalem to celebrate the Tabernacles (see Zechariah 14 in detail).

G-d has already seen the outcome. The question, truly, is: Who will stand with Jerusalem?

"Thus says the L-rd of Hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities; and the inhabitants of one city shall to another, saying, Let us go speedily to entreat the favor of the L-rd, and to seek the L-rd of Hosts: I will go, too. And many people and strong nations shall come to seek the L-rd of Hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the L-rd. Thus says the L-rd of Hosts: In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men out of all the languages of the nations shall take hold, and shall seize the fringes of a Jew, saying: We will go with you; for we have heard that G-d is with you." (Zech. 8)
